For safari enthusiasts, there are 3 safari tours each day starting from 6:30 AM, 9:30 AM and 3:30 PM. During the months of summer, the region of Gujarat receives hot and humid weather and therefore the timings are preponed by 30 minutes. The first trip in the morning is said to be the best time for safari because of the pleasant weather and comfortable climate. When winters are at their peak, the difference is minimal in timing. In the monsoon period, Safari bookings are usually suspended. For tourists, the Gir National Park is open from Mid-October to Mid-June.
Around 50 entry permits are given to each vehicle and in total 150 trips are taken per day. When the park is at its peak season, the number rises to 180 per day. To avoid any last-minute inconvenience, one should apply for the permit at least 30-45 days prior along with the resort.
The forest department of Gir uses Gypsys for jungle safaris. The maximum occupancy per vehicle for jungle safaris is 6 adults and 1 child. Children below 12 years are considered as children, and those above are considered adults for safari bookings.
