PM Modi Embarks on Lion Safari at Gujarat's Gir Wildlife Sanctuary on World Wildlife Day

On March 3, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a lion safari in Gujarat’s famous Gir Wildlife Sanctuary. This event, occurring on World Wildlife Day, marked a significant moment during his 3-day Gujarat visit. The safari aimed to raise awareness about wildlife conservation, specifically the Asiatic lion, a species found exclusively in the Gir region. Accompanied by several dignitaries, PM Modi traversed the sanctuary’s stunning landscapes, experiencing the biodiversity of the area firsthand.
The visit is seen as a part of the ongoing efforts to promote Gujarat Tourism, with the lion safari in Gujarat becoming a major attraction for visitors worldwide. Gir Wildlife Sanctuary, home to over 600 Asiatic lions, has been a success story in terms of conservation, drawing attention globally.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi also visited the iconic Somnath Jyotirlinga temple in Gujarat, reaffirming his connection to the state’s cultural heritage. His engagement with both the lion safari at Gir Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat and the spiritual experience at Somnath highlights the diverse appeal of Gujarat.
Additionally, PM Modi is expected to chair the 7th National Board for Wildlife meeting during his visit, furthering India’s commitment to wildlife preservation.
